Hello! Your Friendly Neighborhood InterWorx Support Manager, here! Just a quick update on what we currently have in active development, some new features, and things to know.
Some good news!
- Support for AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux 8 is nearing public release! Internal testing is complete, and I will be making a post in the coming weeks regarding public pre-beta testing for any who are interested. There will also be announcements on the forum, blog, and Facebook when that hits the Release channel. CloudLinux 8 will also be supported.
- We added a new file manager in IW7, using Tiny File Manager. It is technically currently in public beta, so some features may change, though it is stable for production use. Documentation related to the new file manager can be found here: https://appendix.interworx.com/current/siteworx/file_manager/index.html
Things in Active Development
- We are currently working on AlmaLinx and Rocky Linux 9 support. There is no ETA at this time
- A new major release version for InterWorx (IW8). More information will be provided, soon. This version will be released concurrently with AlmaLinux/Rocky 9 support, so, again, no ETA at this time
Things to Know:
- IW6 is now deprecated, publicly, and will be reaching public EOL in the near future. We strongly recommend any users who are still on IW6 upgrade to IW7. In-place upgrades are possible by opting in on the Software Updates page in NodeWorx. Documentation on using the in-place upgrade tool can be found here: https://appendix.interworx.com/6.x/nodeworx/general/upgrade-major-version.html
- Note: While updating from IW6 > IW7 is currently an opt-in process, that flag will be removed in the near future, so IW6 servers that meet the requirements in the pre-flight check will be updated automatically. I do not have an ETA as to when this change will occur, but there will be a public announcement before that happens, just as a heads up.
- One thing to note is that Themes have been removed in IW7, however, it is possible to add custom branding and logos.
- There are a lot of added features and improvements in IW7 which were not pushed to IW6. Some new features include:
- A new and updated GUI
- Mailman support
- Imunify AV and 360 support
- Dark Mode for the UI
- A new file manager, using Tiny File Manager
- The ability to configure non-standard PHP extensions, such as phtml, from SiteWorx
- The ability to generate DMARC records from SiteWorx
- A PHP extension/module management interface, so you can install PHP modules such as ioncube from Nodeworx, vs the CLI
- The ability to provide SiteWorx users permission to edit their own A records
- Switched to AcmePHP for Let’s Encrypt certificates, since Let’s Encrypt deprecated certbot-auto
- The ability to suspend email accounts from SiteWorx
- Third party Themely WordPress Installer plugin
- Improved GUI interface for Let’s Encrypt generation to make the Subject Alternative Name filed more user friendly
- Roundcube contacts are now included in backups
- Lost password email relay specification, so server admins can set a specific relay server address for lost password reset emails, if desired
- Improved, up to date, documentation, located at https://docs.interworx.com, which redirects to the base appendix url shown in the docs linked, above. The IW6 documentation was not included in our docs revamp project, since public support for that version would be ending soon
- Public EL6 support for InterWorx is now deprecated, and will be reaching EOL in the near future. It is strongly recommended to migrate to a server that is using a supported OS. We are more than happy to assist with migrations as much as we can, and will provide demo keys to facilitate the transition upon request. Just submit a ticket to support.interworx.com. We can provide demo keys that are active for up to 4 weeks for migration purposes, but are able to update those as needed, as well.
- Support for Horde is now deprecated and will be reaching EOL, soon, as we will be updating the internal PHP version to 8.1, and Horde is not compatible with versions past 7.4. There is also a security issue with Horde, which we are unable to resolve on our own. More information can be found here: https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2022-30287
We recommend using Roundcube, and disabling Horde as a webmail option. For users who have been sticking with Horde because of the ability to manage vacation messages, vacation messages can now be managed from Roundcube, as of InterWorx versions 7.12.10 and 6.14.1.
Let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or general comments! We are always interested in customer input. 🙂
Thanks,
-Jenna
