How To Set the DNS Zone Defaults

Purpose

The following procedure explains how to set the DNS zone values such as refresh time, retry time, expiration time, and minimum TTL.

Procedure - Set the DNS Zone Defaults

  1. Click on the System Services menu if it is not already expanded.
  2. Click on the ♦    DNS Server submenu if it is not already expanded.
  3. Click on the      ◊    Overview item.
  4. You should now be looking at the DNS Management controls in the main content area.
  5. Locate the Zone Defaults section.
  6. Update the values you wish to change.
  7. Click the Update button in the Zone Defaults section.
  8. You will see the following message at the top of the screen: » Settings updated successfully.

DNS Zone Default Optons

Refresh Time

The amount of time in seconds between a successful check on the serial number on the zone of the primary DNS and the next attempted check.

Retry Time

The amount of time in seconds to wait before retrying a failed refresh attempt.

Expiration Time

The amount of time in seconds for refresh and retry attempts before the DNS server will stop serving the zone.

Minimum TTL

How often a DNS server checks back for changes to existing DNS records. This can be changed on a per A Record basis.
